PAL Devotion

22A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

(Proverbs 17:22)

Vibrant

I know; life is pretty serious. But not everything has to be taken so seriously; especially when the outcome is predictable.

Great leaders are greatly spirited. They know that great challenges are better faced with a great sense of humor.

There are a couple of reasons to have a vibrant spirit regardless of challenges. First of all, we are going to face problems whether we are vibrant or not. Why not be vibrant? When our circumstances are depressing the worst thing we could is to circum to depression. We need to keep our spirit vibrant! As it is written:

14The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

(Proverbs 18:14)

Another reason to endeavor to maintain a jovial spirit is because we know that the enemies’ best offense is to cause us to drop our defense. All of his attacks are designed to break our spirit and proverbially dry our bones.  When we become worried and wounded we lose our ability to do warfare. We’re more powerful when we are not sorrowful. As it is written:

…neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
(Nehemiah 8:9-11)

A third reason to remain joyous is when we as believers have a predictable outcome. David records how God dealt with blasphemous statements and threats from His own creation:

2The kings of the earth set themselves,

and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD,

and against his anointed, saying,

3Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

(Psalm 2:2-3)

What was God’s response to the nonsense? David goes on to say…

4He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.

(Psalm 4:4)

Are you great at finding something to greatly laugh about when faced with great opposition? Well great! Maybe God is trying to make you into a great leader!  Great leaders are greatly spirited. They know that great challenges are better faced with a great sense of humor.

Today let’s remember, the greatest medicine in the world is not in a bottle. It is bottled up inside of us in the form of laughter. And why not laugh, especially when we know the outcome is we are coming out? Today and always let’s rejoice. Let’s be vibrant!

Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.
(Philippians 4:3-5)
